My Citrus Honeymoon-Themed Bridal Shower + Tips to Make the Most of Your Shower!

This post is a little overdue but I had to share it because all the photos were too beautiful to keep to myself!

I was SO excited for my bridal shower! We had just moved into our new home and it was the perfect opportunity to break it in with our first party.

My mom, bridesmaids, and family all came together to throw me the most beautiful bridal shower.

Since we were now proud owners of an entire orchard full of various citrus trees I thought it only made sense to have a citrus-themed bridal shower.

As much as I was excited about the wedding (and of course to marry Josh) I was almost as excited for our honeymoon.

At the time we weren’t quite sure where we were going to go but I knew it would be somewhere exotic and tropical!

When I came across the honeymoon theme I thought it would be perfect to marry them together. Thus the theme evolved into a citrus-themed honeymoon bridal shower.

I loved the idea of being sustainable and incorporating the oranges, dried citrus, silver dollar eucalyptus, pepper tree, and other greenery and flowers that grew on the land.

I put together a Pinterest board to help narrow down and utilize lots of the greenery and citrus from around our home.

I was absolutely blown away by the stunning, absolutely perfect, and Pinterest-worthy shower they threw for me!

My mom made most of the food (which was primarily Persian) and the cake which was a Persian love cake. It’s one of my all-time favorites!

Some Highlights

  • My MOH asked everyone to bring one pair of panties for me. They strung them up over the fireplace on a clothesline as decor. It was a fun way to incorporate lingerie into the party, but not as the main focus.
  • We played a couple of games focused around “How well do you know Roya & Josh? One of my bridesmaids read a question and everyone held up a paddle that said “Roya” on one side, and “Josh” on the other. For example, one question read “who likes to sleep in more on Sunday mornings?” Then whoever is correct gets a point. I thought it was a playful fun way to see how well everyone knew us as a couple. We had prizes for the winners of each game. The second game we did was “Kiss the Miss” where everyone had to guess the number of Hershey kisses in a jar. I think there is a nice balance between having games that enhance the party and those which distract from it.
  • We collected suggestions for date night ideas. This was a creative game as everyone suggested all different types of ideas and gave us a variety of unique options.
  • I loved the “Bride to Be” backdrop for our photos which doubled as a cake backdrop — as well as the “Roya’s Bridal Shower” polaroid prop. So creative! I so appreciated all the time and effort that went into creating them!
  • The decor — stained glass citrus slices, oranges, silver dollar eucalyptus, pepper tree, and other greenery, and flowers — all came together so beautifully. I love that we were able to use these items from the land and incorporate them into the shower.
  • My sister-in-law collected pieces of wrapping paper as I opened the gifts and made a bouquet out of it to use as a practice bouquet for the rehearsal. I had never seen that before and thought it was a great idea!
  • Josh stayed for the entire party which ended up being really fun. I’m glad that we had the chance to take photos and feed each other cake. There is no rule that says the groom can’t be there! As the shower wrapped up we invited the men in the family to join for an after-party.

Some bridal shower tips to enjoy your day!

  • Clean your ring before the party as everyone will be looking at it!
  • Take the majority of photos and videos at the beginning of the party so you can relax after. Plus everything always looks best when it’s captured fresh!
  • Document the details. It’s often the small details that make a party.
  • Don’t forget to eat! Since my mom made all of my favorites I couldn’t wait to dig in.
  • You do you! If you don’t want to wear white – then don’t! Wear whatever makes you feel beautiful on your special day.
  • Once the party has started, relax and enjoy every minute.
  • Make a chill playlist as well as a dancy one in case you want to turn up the energy and transition into movement.
  • Remember there aren’t any hard and fast “rules” to throwing a bridal shower, so have fun and get creative. Don’t be afraid to add your own personality and twist on things.

My Look

  • Makeup – I treated myself and had my makeup done professionally for the first time in my life. I felt like a princess wearing her flower crown.
  • Flower Crown – When Josh proposed in Hawaii I had a flower crown and since then fell in love with them. I knew that I wanted one for the shower and had a special flower crown crafted. I was so happy with how it turned out.
  • Shoes – I bought my shoes from Lulus, which were the same pair from my engagement party. They were comfortable and I knew that I would not be doing a lot of walking.
  • Dress – My dress also came from Lulus. I loved the way it fit and specifically chose something that I would feel comfortable wearing again in the future.
